Honda CB Shine 125

The Honda CB Shine 125.

It is the best selling 125cc motorcycle in the world.  Oddly enough, it isn't available here in the Philippines.  It's the Honda CB Shine 125.  Locally, we do have the Honda CB 125L.  Although they sound the same, they are totally worlds apart.  The CB125L is designed for tricycle while the CB Shine 125 is a personal commuter bike.

Optimax - Optimum Fuel Efficiency, Maximum Performance

Incredible.  With regards to fuel efficiency, this is definitely the one of the most efficient bikes that I owned and tested.  Even when the needle points in the "red" zone, it'll still get you home.  I usually get almost 60 kilometers to a liter in a city ride.  I got 62 kml in another one of the tests outside the Metro.  If you love traveling, you will go far with the CB Shine.  And with 11 liters tank capacity, with a reserve of 1.3 liters, expect to go far with the CB Shine.

BEST Riding Comfort

If beside the consumption, another thing I like best with the CB Shine is the unbelievably comfortable riding position.  Plush seat makes riding all day and night possible.  Standard position allows relaxed position in handling the bike.  The handline is great too by the way.  It feels like a very compact bike, and maneuvering it is way too over easy.  The Curb weight of the bike is only 121 kilograms.  Ground clearance is a decent 157mm and the total seat height is 790mm.

Front suspension is equipped with telescopic fork while the rear is a 3 step spring loaded hydraulic suspension.

Optimal Tires, Decent Brakes

18 inch wheels, which is 1 inch bigger than the norm is advantageous in  tackling rougher roads.  The tubeless tires don't hurt either.  Less flat tire possibility!  The rear is equipped with a drum brake while the front is with a disc brake.  Braking distance is super short when I "emergency tested" it.

Reverse Rotary Gear Shift Pattern and Speed

Shifting gears will take a getting used to.  It has a manual clutch and the shifting pattern is 1-2-3-4 in a reverse pattern dominant in underbones.  But once you get used to it, you will find out if might be the best gear shifting system for you.  Shifting gears up and down is flawless and has a nice clicky feel to it.

Is the CB Shine a speedster?  No.  It wasn't design to go fast.  If you want fast, get a CBR1000RR.  But the CB Shine 125 is capable of doing a 100 kmh.  And it'll take a while to get you there.

Another flaw with the bike is its lack of more gears for wasted torque.  A fifth gear would be highly appreciated.  Or just a simple change of rear and engine sprocket will do the trick.

A touch of premiumness

While it is the best selling 125cc bike, Honda still managed to add a touch of premiumness into it.  The tank emblem is a "real" emblem instead of a sticker.  The pillion grab is also a nice touch, instead of a rack, which by the I would prefer for its utilitarian purposes.

It is a bike that I have as a payment for a service I rendered.  I was intent on selling the bike,  But the more I use it, the more I'm liking it.  I think I'll hold on to it for a little more while.
